Follow the Lines!
is a Duo Show that offers a compelling exploration of Japanese contemporary painting through the artistic expressions of
Yoichiro Otani
and
Koga Miura. Both artists skilfully integrate traditional fundamentals with modern technology.
Influenced by the concept of accidental randomness, Koga Miura utilizes a random number generator to determine the components of his compositions. Deliberately incorporating the unpredictable nature of manual painting, Miura's work highlights the contrast between the calculated precision of technology and the organic variability inherent in human touch.
Through his creations,
Miura offers a reflective examination of the artist's role in our contemporary age, largely governed by technology.
The artworks featured in "Follow the Lines!" explore the intersections of linearity and randomness, juxtaposing manual painting against digital precision. This dialogue initiates an exploration that both questions and celebrates the evolving landscape of Japanese contemporary art.
Yoichiro Otani employs digital programming techniques to randomly position kanji characters in his artwork. This innovative approach challenges conventional textual interpretations of kanji, resulting in visually captivating narratives.
Otani's creations transcend the visual realm, incorporating poetic elements that add layers of profound meaning on both artistic and semantic levels. His pieces encourage viewers to perceive kanji in a fresh light, appreciating them as dynamic visual elements endowed with rich aesthetic and semantic depth.
Follow the Lines! serves as a metaphorical exploration of adherence to and deviation from established norms—whether they pertain to traditions, algorithmic guidelines, the intricate lines within a kanji character, or the literal strokes of paint on canvas.
